Introduction
The Trust is committed to ensuring that all retiring employees are fully informed of the options available to them and are given the necessary guidance to make appropriate preparations for retirement, in accordance with equal opportunities and statutory obligations.
The Trust has a duty to promote equality of opportunity and eliminate discrimination wherever it is found. This policy will be applied fairly and consistently, irrespective of an individual’s race, disability, gender, sexual orientation, religion or belief, age, transgender status, caring responsibilities, flexible working status, pregnancy, relationship status, staff association or trade union activity, or membership of any other marginalised group.
Our Values and Behaviours underpin this policy and guide actions and decisions across all employment policies and processes.
Purpose
This policy provides guidance on retirement and flexible retirement options for NHS employees, in line with NHS Pension Scheme rules, workforce planning requirements, and local organisational needs. It aims to support staff to plan retirement in a fair, inclusive, and consistent manner.
The Retirement Policy and Guidance apply to all employees directly employed by the Trust and sets out the process to be followed when employees inform the Trust that they wish to retire.
This policy and guidance are in accordance with the Equality Act 2010 and the subsequent Employment Equality (Repeal of Retirement Age Provisions) Regulations 2011. Adhering to this guidance ensures that the Trust meets its legal obligations under the Equality Act 2010 and helps prevent discrimination on the grounds of age.
