Around 100 people joined Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals yesterday evening at their Annual General Meeting, held at Ashford Hospital.

Chairman Aileen McLeish, commented: “I and the Board were delighted that so many people were able to join us last night, and with the real interest the local community clearly has in our two hospitals. We were also pleased to see many members of staff in the audience. Last year was one of the most successful years ever for Ashford and St Peter’s, and it was rewarding to share our achievements with members of the local community.

Almost a year ago we became a Foundation Trust, passing new and tougher quality standards set by the regular, Monitor, and earlier this year we were nominated as a CHKS top 40 hospital. Most importantly we know we continue to provide high quality care and treatment to our patients, demonstrated in the 2010 Dr Foster Good Hospital Guide, our improving patient survey results and our continued achievement of key national targets.”

The evening’s presentations included Chief Nurse, Suzanne Rankin, who spoke about the Trust’s vision for the very best nursing care and Dr Gulam Patel, Consultant Rheumatologist and Divisional Director who talked about work being undertaken to prevent people being admitted to hospital as emergencies. The Trust Board was also joined by Dr Liz Lawn, local GP and Chair of the North West Surrey Clinical Commissioning Group Management Board who will – in 2013 – be taking over responsibility for buying local healthcare services. Dr Lawn spoke about how the group for North West Surrey is developing and the joint work that the Trust is leading with other local health and social care organisations to provide better services for local patients.

Guests were also able to talk to members of staff over coffee before the meeting started, including the Heads of Nursing, members of the housekeeping department, capital projects team (focusing on the latest planning developments at the Trust), physiotherapy services and our specialist nurse for organ donation.

The Trust’s membership services were also represented; anyone interested in becoming a member of the Foundation Trust can call the membership office on 01932 723850.
