When survivor of breast cancer, Lorna Ponti, regained her strength after extensive treatment for breast cancer in 2005 she put her renewed energies into fundraising that would benefit other local women facing a similar battle.

Lorna, a Wentworth resident, began a regular charity lunch event that has now raised £73,000 in four years for the Ashford and St. Peter’s Hospitals Breast Care Unit and has made sizeable donations to cancer related charities like Marie Curie, Cancer Research UK, Macmillan Cancer Support, The Prostate Cancer Charity and the Wexham Park Hospital Urology Research Fund.

She is supported by a strong committee of ladies who spend a year working towards the annual Lunch4Life, held at the Wentworth Club. The event always includes a live auction, a silent auction and a raffle.

Said Lorna: “We have a tremendous committee who put a huge amount of time and energy into organising the Lunch4Life. Cancer, in its many different forms, touches the lives of so many people and in the past four years we have received tremendous support from so many people from both the world of entertainment, the world of business and our own local community for which we are very grateful.”

Said Miss Shrotria: “Bringing the benefits of new developments for treating breast cancer to our patients has been possible with the help of this generous donation. The money will be used to purchase vital equipment for the breast unit to help in breast cancer surgery and reconstruction. We have also purchased a flood scanner for the nuclear medicine department to help with the identification of involved lymph nodes in breast cancer. I am most grateful to Lorna and her friends for helping us year on year, to stay at the forefront of delivering good care to patients.”
