Members past and present of the Ashford Hospital League of Friends – which has been raising funds for the hospital for the past 47 years – came together at the charity’s Annual General Meeting last Thursday evening at Ashford Hospital.

Over the past year the Friends have raised an impressive £32,000 which bought items ranging from a £75 printer for the Faith Room, £6000 on patient chairs for Dickens ward, to a special £25,000 operating table for patients who require surgery because they are medically obese. The Friends raise their funds through a variety of ways including running the Atrium café and the ground floor coffee shop, providing a trolley service around the wards for patients and doing a variety of table sales and other events during the year.

John Belstead, Chair for the last two years and a retired A&E consultant from Ashford, opened the evening, handing over to Honorary President, Dr Peter Wilkinson who thanked the Friends on behalf of staff and patients for their continued and valuable support over the last year.
