Elmbridge`s new Mayor, Councillor Martin Schofield, today launched his Charity Appeal at local company Cargill`s Cobham office. The Mayor has decided to have a theme for his term of office the “Good Health and Well-being of the Borough” and thanked Cargill for its generous donation of £3000, which will get the appeal off to a positive start.

Cargill`s involvement is especially relevant in view of the company`s international reputation in promoting environmental stewardship, particularly in agriculture and food production. He will also be working with other agencies within Elmbridge Borough Council highlighting their work within this theme.

In line with his aims, the main beneficiaries of the Mayor`s charity appeal will be Asthma UK and the Stephanie Marks Diabetes Appeal.

Regrettably, more and more young people are affected by these two illnesses and we will particularly focus our campaign on relief and support for these children.

In addition the Mayor will continue to raise money on behalf of the Mayor of Elmbridge Trust Fund, ensuring that, when local residents are in a time of severe need, there is assistance on hand for them.

If you wish to know more about the Mayor`s Charity Appeal and how you may help, or if you or your Company/organisation are launching any initiative which fits within the aims of the Mayor`s theme, do please telephone the Mayor`s Secretary on 01372 474383 to discuss the details with her.
