We are able to organise the translation of our patient information leaflets into most languages but this is the responsibility of the specialty which produced the leaflet and as such, we do not centrally record the number of leaflets translated or which languages they have translated into.

7) For the following financial years: 2013/14, 2014/15 and so far in 2015/16, how much money has the trust spent on the following language services:

a) Translation of written information for patients /carers

The Trust holds the requested information, but considers it is exempt under section 12 of the Act, and taking into account the other six questions that need answering, as we are unable to break down the costs for the three years between translation of written information (Q7a) or translation services for patients/carers (Q7b). This is due to the fact that we only have one code in the ledger called Interpreting Services and the volume of invoices that would need looking at, therefore the cost of compliance is estimated to exceed the appropriate limit. If you would like an indicative figure then Q9a of FOI 4049 gave a figure of £2,067 for translation of written material in calendar year 2014 – please click on the following the link.

b) Translation services for patients/carers

See question 7a) above.

c) Employment of translators

The Trust does not employ translators

d) Employment of advocates for non-English speaking people
